Teacher Work Day... no school! Today, I decided, would be just for the boys.
A fun day!
After adventuring, and rock throwing, and picnicking we went in search of a mooing cow. The cow was not to be found but we happened upon a haystack which, Boo proclaimed, he and Tukes must climb, "Just like Laura and Mary."
This morning we traded town for the country with big plans in mind.
Hiking, outfitted in boots and backpacks {it's all about the gear, folks}.
Boo's request, a picnic in the white gazebo {see above}.
Fish feeding. Horse watching. Mockingbird chasing.
After adventuring, and rock throwing, and picnicking we went in search of a mooing cow. The cow was not to be found but we happened upon a haystack which, Boo proclaimed, he and Tukes must climb, "Just like Laura and Mary."So, my boys climbed to what felt like the top of the world, while I laid on my back in the pasture smiling and capturing their delight.

I love it. Especially since dearest finished reading Little House in the Big Woods on our first leg of our trip so that he could be well into Little House on the Prarie by the time we get to DeSmet, SD - to that house.... fun. I love that it is warm enough there for shirt sleeves. It is 10 degrees in ND right now brrr. thanks for the warm images
We're taking my nephew to see cows tomorrow! hooray! Kelly
Oh! Blue skies and short sleeves. How lovely.
If your boys are Prairie fans, you've probably read Farmer Boy? There are some really exciting chapters in that one--it's a favorite at our house!
This is charming! Where do you live?! (Not that I expect you to share that information. It's just I wonder where there is such a place as to find haystacks.)
Your top of the world photography of the boys goes to the top of the class in my opinion. A+ in terms of sweet memories of a fun day, color contrast and composition and a A++ for the warm fuzzies.
Anna -- Farmer Boy is a favorite at our house too. Boo and I are reading thru the series aloud and he loves it. Having not read the books since elementary school I am as captivated as he is.
Katherine -- I'm only willing to say that we live in a smallish town in the Deep South. Yesterday's adventuring took us to a sprawling "park" outside of town... it's really more like a city owned and maintained farm. There is an old house on the property, hayfields, hiking trails, a fish pond, a rose garden, a party pavilion, and a barn. It's not a "working farm", just a huge {free!} place in the country where little boys and dogs can roam.
Stevie -- *Thank you!*
Oh my goodness! What a fun time for you and your boys! I absolutely LOVE the pictures of them on the haystack! Great post and the most beautiful moments captured. Thanks for sharing!
Have a great weekend!
Taylor always thought everything was about 'the gear', too...outfit included. That boy changed clothes a few times a day to go with the activity! In fact, he still does that!
Looks like the perfect day! And that is some gazebo!
The gear at my house was Fisher Price binoculars and backpacks to carry the treasures: rocks, leaves, flowers and sticks. They explored the empty lot next door and the pasture behind us. They are 26 and 28 now. Thanks for reminding me of their childhood.
Amazing pictures!
Fantastic, MG. What a wonderful day!
How lovely! The blue sky and your two little ones enjoying the sun! Very cute!

It looks like your boys had alot of fun! very nice pics, I'm itching for spring!
those were always the best days. when there was no time for a lunch we would throw drinking boxes and a bag of chips into the knapsack. the kids would be thrilled, chips, in the woods!!
here from SS. perfectly cloudscape. they seem to be right up there themselves in that wild blue yonder!
The haystack and the sky is a great contrast for your kids! Beautiful.
Beautiful captures! It looks like such a fun day.
