Someone... somewhere... somehow... put me in charge of creating invitations for the annual Ladies Spring Dinner at our church. The planning committee chose an Italian theme for the evening; the invitations needed to reflect the theme.
I delved into our personal photo archives, sifting through shots from our 2007 trip to Italy. A sunny day in March produced some beautiful cityscape shots of Venice. This one, taken at sunset, was perfect for the invitations.
Photo postcards were printed with the invitation text on the opposite side thus requiring less postage and using less paper {no envelope}. Simple and beautiful, the photo speaks for itself... and this invitation reminds me of a happy day.
I'll confess... I'm not much of a theme-loving girl. However, I had fun creating this simple invitation that captures the essence of old world Italy, while maintaining my own understated, fussy-free design preferences.

I love them! Such a beautiful photo and great idea.
Lovely I especially appreciate that you didn't go with the cheesy (pun intended) wine, cheese, sunflower thing.
so creative and lovely.
Do you mind telling me where you had them printed or did you do it on your printer? I need to do something similar for graduation announcements! You did the same thing for our postcard swap and yours were lovely!
Brilliant! And oh how I'd love to be in Italy right now...
Reminds me of a puzzle I put together some years ago! Postcards are a vintage idea these days of email and phones - who doesn't love getting a bright, colorful postcard tucked in amongst the bills and junk mail.
Your photos blow me away! God has blessed you with a gift for sure. I love how the pictures take me to a place I've never been, but I feel as though I could speak with the characters pictured there. How do you do it?
God Bless you and your church event. Looks like it's off to a wonderful start with those invites!
thats a cute idea friend...!!!
loved the pic..!!!
Besty, and anyone else wondering -- I used Zazzle for the printing and was *very* pleased with the service and quality. Their web interface for designing the card was easy to use, too.
We ordered 150 postcards and paid $.69/card -- the more you order the less cost per card. I'll warn you, shipping is costly {we paid $15-20 in shipping} but if you order far enough in advance you can opt for the cheapest delivery option. I think the grand total for my order of 150 post cards plus shipping was $115.
I probably could have spent less if I'd printed them myself but the cost {this was a church expense, not my own} was worth it to remove the burden from my "to do" list, and the quality of the {full bleed!} printing was much better than I could've achieved on my own.
Gorgeous, MG!
Thanks, MG...I'll check out Zazzle!
That seems so relaxing! Perfect for your invite!
Everything is so photo lovely in Venice . . .and you've captured it perfectly! Absolutely stunning!
But what did you do with the green ink or paint that's in your post?
What a fun idea and how delightful it would be to get one of those in one's mailbox. Did I know y'all went to Italy? What took you there? Adrian and I have both lived in Italy for varying degrees of time before we met and I have many attachments to that country! Venice is romantic, mysterious and wonderful. I have a LONG string of glass beads that I bought on the street there for my "hope to have" little girl to wear one day. Have a wonderful weekend! Kelly
It certainly does speak for itself! Ah...Venice...I had my first Tiramisu there. I've never had another that could compare.
And I'm with "Anonymous" -- the vibrant green brush/ink has piqued my interest!
Regarding the green ink... I used the ink and glass pen as photo props. They were a gift to me from the prof before we were married when we were living 10 hours apart. I often wrote him letters with that pen and ink.
{Willow, if you read this, he bought them at "On Paper" in Short North. I LOVE that store. I wonder if it's still there.}
Beautiful! Girl, you should be a professional photographer! You capture the most inspiring shots!
Looks like your photo invitations will be a hit!
