Snowy Sunday

Waking winter wonderland...

Breathtaking.

Exuberance and excitement...

Happy frolicking.

Cold. Who cares?

Serious play...

Laughter and squeals.

Discovery.

Fresh and bright.

Happy, happy day.

I should be in bed. But I'm on your blog...loving the snowy photos.

What kind of lens do you use outdoors? Do you prefer auto or manual? Your photos shift wonderfully from close-up stills to moving scenes. (I'm just a beginner at this, but it's oh, so much fun!)

-ps-did you find the tablecloth yet??

wow! y'all really got alot! We got a dusting, but it was enough for the kids to don jackets, hats, and gloves and play outside just long enough for us to be late to church :) It was fun, but I do hope it's the last cold spell before spring :)

Anna and anyone else who is interested -- Lest I give the impression of fully knowing what I am talking about, let me preface this by saying that I only halfway know what I'm talking about... when it comes to the camera and shooting, I am learning.

I use a Nikon D60 with the basic Nikkor 18-35 mm kit lens {nothing special}. It DOES have the VR feature {image stabilization}, a feature worth paying extra for if you shoot on the go with little ones like I do! I also use a UV filter which makes colors a bit richer.

I shift between auto focus and manual focus as needed. And, I shoot mainly in aperture priority mode, occasionally shifting to shutter priority mode. Yesterday's snow shots of the boys were actually shot in program mode, a setting that I used quite often when I was first learning but not so much these days -- with the wonky lighting and exposure issues that the snow caused it worked great. I never use auto mode (I like to have some control of my settings), but I haven't yet gained the confidence to shoot exclusively in manual mode, so I'd say I'm somewhere in the middle. It's a journey!

I always set ISO and white balance according to the setting and quality of light that I have. Depending on the mode I'm shooting in I also set aperture and shutter speed as needed.

I think that's it. I've learned a lot over the past few years but still have so much to learn. Sometime this year the prof. hopes to get us a fixed 50 mm lens, which is great for indoor shooting, something I do quite often.

Thanks for all the wonderful techie explanations!!!! I love your photography as well! My husband gave me a new Fuji camera for Valentine's and I'm a little overwhelmed by all that it does . . .so you have given me tremendous hope and inspiration! Thanks! Enjoy the snow . . .Even with a teen, I'm heading out to sled! :-)

It's fun to watch your boys jubilant over snow. We woke to another foot, another snow day cancellation, and hard to be excited about it anymore.

beautiful photos, as always,

Hi! I follow your blog but have not yet commented. Today I'm catching up on my blog reading. As I scrolled down your snow pics from this post, I could feel that muffled softness that a landscape of snow brings to our ears.

Thanks for sharing God's visual wonders to you with the world!
