There is no denying it, our blackberry winter finished off the local blueberries before they had a chance to delight us on hot, summer days. Sigh... they are not ripe on the bush as I suspected and pickings are slim, oh so slim. Today's blueberry hunt yielded more mosquito bites than my handful of tiny, under-ripe berries. Pitiful.
So, I marched myself down to the local produce stand and bought juicy peaches to go over pound cake, and some for making jam. The blood red tomatoes are perfect for cucumber sandwiches, and for slicing. Every southern girl knows that a plate of sliced tomatoes, seasoned with salt and pepper, counts as a summertime side dish with practically any meal no matter how casual or fancy.
Yes, the peaches and tomatoes will do quite nicely for making me smile, thank you very much. I'll keep checking the blueberries but my hope for them is swiftly drifting away.

That farm stand looks wonderful! We aren't quite to the tomato season yet. Seems we have to wait until summer is almost over before the corn and tomatoes are plentiful. And I agree...a sliced tomato is the perfect side dish with anything!
Peaches and poundcake...perfect!
My supper tonight was a tomato and bacon sandwich on Big Sky fresh ground whole wheat bread. I piled the whole tomato on the sandwich.
Avacados for 79 cents each...would excite me!!!
What a beautiful looking produce stand!
We had a church cook-out last night and enjoyed garden grown tomatoes on our burgers. Oh so yummy! Nothing beats a good tomato in my opinion.
And to answer your questions, 3900 miles! :) Craziness, huh? As glad as I am to be home, those 15 days straight of virtually uninterrupted time with my hubby was sweet!
