The professor was busy with a dinner meeting so the boys and I ate a light supper and enjoyed a long bike ride. At the back of the neighborhood, near a quiet cove, we happened upon a little brown rabbit who was enjoying the mild evening. Much to our delight he was accepting of our audience as he hopped across a grassy lawn taking time to nibble this and that. He came to a latched gate, which he inspected carefully for quite some time. As we watched, Tukes, who was still strapped in his little seat on the back of my bike, wondered aloud, "Is dere no woom for a fat, wittle wabbit to squeeze under da gate?"
"After a time he began to wander about, going lippity-lippity -- not very fast, and looking all around. He found a door in a wall; but it was locked, and there was no room for a fat little rabbit to squeeze underneath." from The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter
Thank you, Ms. Potter, for creating an imaginary world so delightful that it is capable of becoming real on a midsummer's evening.

Great post! I love Beatrix Potter, too...enchanting drawings and tales.
Now if only the little guy had a blue pea coat on!
I love that your boys' lives are so enriched by classic literature. You inspire me in who I want to be as a mother someday. Kelly
I love this! That he would think of Peter Rabbit. Charming.
how beautiful!
Christian,
I'm so glad you're back. I'm a little slow and see it's been for a while. I'll have to go catch up on what you've written since your return. I found your blog days before you took your last break.
Aren't books and the stories in them the best? Oh, the wonderful things that roam the mind that has been filled to the brim with stories!
Joy. He's definitely yours.
Delightful! As a professor of childrens literature, I love that your obviously have immersed your little ones in books. What joy for both parents and children.
