The Kitchen, Deconstructed

This is what my kitchen looked like right after lunch today.
At four o'clock this afternoon the floor was covered with water and...
My father-in-law and the professor were frantically bailing.
Sometimes home renovations take a downward spiral.

Tonight we went out to dinner.

After dinner we went appliance shopping, which leads me to these questions.
Does anyone have a convection oven? If so...
Do you like it?
How does it affect baking times?

Have a fun and happy holiday my friends.
We'll be staying close to home this weekend... all in the name of kitchen progress.
Sadly, I doubt that I'll be preparing festive picnic food tomorrow.
Perhaps we'll just eat pound cake.

Oh, I know how that feels. I came home to all the carpet being out of our master bedroom and a four foot hole in the floor. Any home renovation, no matter how small, is very stressful. Hopefully you are back to baking soon.

How exciting! A new kitchen! I have a convection oven and it is a wonderful WONDERFUL thing. Cooks far more evenly than a standard oven. It cooks a bit faster, too - when I'm baking, I usually knock a minimum of 5 minutes off the low end of the estimated time.

Good luck and happy shopping!

I don't know what I have, except for the brand Kitchen Aid. And I wouldn't reccomend it.
I hope things go a little better with the remodel. Happy 4th

I would give you sympathy, but you are going to have a wonderful, new kitchen! (Keep the end in mind.) I'm getting a mental picture of the water bailing and the mood of all concerned. Hang in there! Happy 4th!

Convection ovens are great but you definitely have to work with it to find the right temp and time as it differs from a regular oven. But I've heard wonderful things about them. I'd love to have one myself but it's not in the budget right now!

I have cooked many, many cookies in a commercial convection oven and LOVE how every cookie is uniform because of the circulating heat.

happy Reno!

That picture looks so exciting to me! Not the water bailing part, though! Oh dear! But I so love a renovation! You have a nice sized kitchen! We have that same beautiful stainless island. It's a work table up in The Mister's office...he's supposed to work on his model ships on it...but you know how that goes.

The kitchen is going to be lovely...really...!

I have a small combo convection/toaster oven - LOVE It! It's the perfect size for me!

My Mom has had a convection oven for many years. She just bought a new one by Wolfgang Puck, It's Stainless Steel - works beautifully - cooks evenly and perfectly! She'd never be without one!

Oh Modgirl! Bailing water! Oh my! How did you keep "the little helpers" out of that fun? :) I hope y'all are having a good day. Kelly

If I was there, I'd offer to help ... and take that last piece of cake I see on the covered stand. Mmmm...

And, I have a convection oven. I like it. Feel free to email any questions!

I lived through a kitchen renovation that went waaaay longer than expected. No water on the floor, but living with it for months was very hard. You have my sympathies and I hope things hum along for you all from this point on! :-)

Miss G/Kelly -- The little helpers and I were at the pool when the flood occurred. How fortunate!

Sallie -- We gutted the kitchen in our first house and it took us three months to get it "put back together" and functional. So far this renovation seems much easier by comparison... but while in the midst of the dust and noise, nothing seems easy!

Oh friend,
I am sorry to hear about the flood. I would have panicked to say the least. What a blessing to be married to a handyman to renovate your kitchen. I would like to renovate mine...we'd have to hire out though. lol! Right now, that's not in the budget.

I hope that you've had a great holiday friend!

Happy 4th to you!

We had a convection oven at our old house. Honestly, I wasn't super impressed with the claims of faster baking...the convection option didn't really seem to make any appreciable difference.

Sorry there have been hiccups in the work, but I know it'll be worth it!

Have not seen the stainless fridge and cart/table in the kitchen!

I run a B&B and have a convection oven, GE profile, I'm really unimpressed, not a bad oven but certainly not worth extra. The multi level baking option, in the same oven, is not worth paying extra for, I always cook one sheet at a time because I like the bottom to be a little crispy. Don't buy LG dishwasher, mine is 2.5 yrs old and in the shop getting a new pump.

I would never go back to a regular oven. Mine has a convection roast function as well, and it makes a perfect pork tenderloin or any meat for that matter perfect every time. I don't notice much difference, maybe 5 minutes, in baking times, but definitely more even cooking as far as cakes and cookies.

I really have enjoyed my convection oven. It does bake things more evenly and in a few fewer minutes than the recipes took with a standard oven. It is a lovely thing to have. Good luck with the kitchen!
