The Listening Hour

The last time we visited my parents I spent some time sifting through their collection of records, choosing some of my old favorites to share with the boys. When the afternoon heat and bugs drive us indoors they enjoy listening to the pop and crackle of the hi-fi as it spins out the tunes of my early childhood.

I delight in sharing bits of my girlhood days with them... we always listen together. While the music and stories are new to them, I return to yesterdays when I reclined in the big blue chair, my "record chair", while listening to Peter and the Wolf.

Oh my goodness! This brings back memories! I think my younger sister has my parents record collection and player. I haven't thought of those in years! How fun...Peter and the Wolf!

Oh my goodness. I used to sit in my parents' room, all by myself, and listen to Peter and the Wolf on their record player, playing the entire story out in my mind. I loved it.

something about Peter and the Wolf is very good for brain development.

Great picture and way to ride out the heat!

I think I have a copy of Peter and the Wolf on vinyl, too. I'm going to have to go on a search mission. Are you familiar with the poem "The Children's Hour?" (Not to be confused with the play!) I love your "Listening Hour!"

I ususally just 'lurk' around your blog, but wanted you to know how much I enjoy it. Your images are wonderful and they always make me feel good. They're peaceful and calming.

Have a Blessed Day!

I was just looking for that CD at the library the other day. How fun to have it on a record.

I have all of my old records at school and I do this with my students sometimes. They are amazed that you can turn a record over since cds only play on one side! :) Kelly

I love this picture. The perspective is fantastic!

I have a record from the early 70s that is narrated by Ronald Regan. He was reading a children's book about American history. It was a pop-up book with nice illustrations. The book is long gone but the 45 record remains. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to play it on.
