AAAAck! Wouldn't a Daddy Long Legs be more "safe"??? Those babies (numbering in the hundreds, by the way) are nearly microscopic when they very suddenly hatch. I hope your cage is completely hole/crack free or you'll have an interesting situation for the next six months.
love the boots. reminds me of my boy who wore boots every day for a couple of years.
The professor found the black widow living on the underneath side of our backyard bench when we was cleaning and sealing the wooden planks. He destroyed her three egg sacs and captured her to show the boys. Boo sought permission to show her to his class at school, which he did. Since then she has created two new egg sacs. I do NOT want the baby spiders to hatch in my kitchen and am not really fond of having a venomous spider in the house at all, which is why the professor will be disposing of our "pet" tomorrow. But, I have to say, it's been a fun way for the boys to learn; most importantly they recognize and respect the harmful spider.
Eeek is right. We have a lot of black widows where we live. Not in the kitchen though. :) We also have a lot of garden spiders and one has two egg sacs on our patio. It really is fascinating. She gets huge and then another sac appears and she's thin again.
It's so sad I don't get to visit you as often as I used to. I'm always behind. The cowboy boots are to die for. Funny how there are parallel themes in our homes. Much love sent your way...
