In Your Easter Bonnet...

"If the knitter is weary
the baby will have no new bonnet."

However, if the "knitter" isn't really much of a knitter {oh, how I've tried} and if the "knitter" happens to have some of Great-Grandma Cooky's crocheted placemats lying around... then baby will have a new bonnet indeed!

And, the new bonnet will be feminine and fancy with a touch of tatting salvaged from threadbare, vintage pillowcases.

Georgia's crocheted placemat bib was fun to create and give to a friend this summer. The placemat bonnet... well, I'm smitten all over again. It's perfect for a certain Little Miss who I know will be full of fun and dressed with a touch of fancy this spring.

Sweet, sweet, sweet! Your creation reminds me of a hanky bonnet Rachel was given as a baby.

FYI -- Actually, this bonnet is not for our baby... it's not tiny enough to fit an infant. This little number is going to a good friend's little girl who is three.

oh, it's so beautiful and clever!! And it's not for your baby?! I hope you have a girl and you have another placemat laying around :)
About the knitting, I knit 2 things: dishcloths and scarves. And I did manage one baby hat but it wasn't that functional and I gave it up in disgust.
But your bonnet: I'm inspired!

What a clever idea! (I can't crochet either.)

That is so precious! I love how you can recycle something beautiful into something even more beautiful.

I love that you will use something like that for your baby. I adore the old pictures of babies in lace and fineries....today we dress them as sloppily as we dress ourselves! I have already promised myself that if I ever have a child, I will make it a beautiful gown, complete with handmade lace, for it's baby dedication.
