Vintage Day Gowns

Ever so slowly tiny baby things have started creeping into our house again... most recently, a big, beautiful pile of vintage Feltman Brothers cotton day gowns. The professor's sister, while in the process of helping her mother-in-law clean out the old family home, saved them from a certain demise when none of the family members wanted to keep them {gasp!}. With a bit of laundering and some mending they'll be ready and waiting for our spring arrival.

Don't be alarmed if you find them missing...I may sneak east and steal them while you're away - haha!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Feltman Bros stuff...most of what we have was given to us used and I like them better than the new ones...soft and "broken in."

Have I told you that I have baby gowns that were my dad's, handmade and very simply embroidered by my grandmom?? Oh, I can't wait to see our Baby in them...they'll be 63 years old and so full of meaning.

Oh! I just love those. My mom is always picking them up at thrift stores for my babies. They are surprisingly practical except for the teeny tiny buttons.

Gorgeous!!

Looks like you did a fine job on your own, but have you heard of the sunlight/grass trick for laundering old and/or stained items?

My mother has used this trick on items 100years+

Soak in plain water. Dump and repeat at least once. On a sunny day (and no kids or pets at large) gently squeeze most moisture from garment and lay directly on grass. Flip and dry other side.

Apparently, sunlight and the actual grass work together on this one. She gets amazing results.

How beautiful! I can't believe how many things people throw away because they are old....sigh. If only we spent that much effort on clothing today.

Have never seen Feltman Brothers items. Look forward to seeing little ModBaby in them : )

The grass/sunlight process really works, too!

I'm ignorant of day gowns and sorry my babies missed them! But I LOVE white on babies. Can't wait to see your baby in them.

It pleases me that there are still gorgeous things around that no one wants. Makes me certain that I will find beautiful old things if the timing is right - as indeed, it seemed to be for you!
