We did it... two boys, two bedrooms, and 200,000 "I can't get rid of
this" treasures consolidated into one space.

The room is colorful,
boy'ish, and pleasantly cluttered.

Things are neat right now but sometimes this place is a disaster zone. As long as the room is relatively tidy at bedtime I try not to sweat the mess... this is their space.

Each boy has one drawer to hold seasonal play clothes; the third drawer contains socks, underwear, and pajamas for both.

They love having bunk beds... I love the floor space that going vertical allows.

Cubicle bookcases from
Ikea {the white one shown here and a low brown one on the far side of the bottom bunk, partially shown in photos 2 and 3} help us maintain our preference that all toys are stored in the boys' room.

In the interest of keeping it real here is the closet. There are more games and toys stored inside while shirts, jackets, and dress clothes hang. I still need to sort through the shoes and settle on a good shoe storage solution.

And here is real life... just hours after having the room neatly picture perfect this is the current status!

One project room finished... two bathrooms and a nursery to go!

LOVE IT!!! Love the clean lines! Love the colors! Love the toys contained in/on shelves! Love the honest look in the closet! Love it all! GREAT job!
You have such a lovely home! I've loved seeing all of your different spaces and gathering up inspiration.
It's wonderful! I'm partial to boys and their stuff! ;)
What a wonderful room for your boys. We have an IKEA cubicle shelf in our family/play room and we love it.
Thanks for the photos! So fun to see the combined space now. I LOVE the bright blankets with the squares on their beds.
And if you hit on good shoe storage, please share because that is something I can't figure out either.
I love the "eat good food" note at the end :)
We have the same cat clock in our retro kitchen. My husband loves it.
I feel like I'm walking into one of IKEA's "rooms"...and drooling.
Ruth -- Hah! I just realized that every stick of furniture in the room, except for the butterfly chair, IS from Ikea. Not from one big shopping trip, but stuff we've collected up over the years. While I wouldn't want my house to be completely furnished with stuff from Ikea, it works well in a room for two active boys.
Stopping by to say hello. It's been awhile...
Lots of goodness going on your way! : )
Blessings!
Y'all have done a wonderful job! The rest will come! Yea for Babar the elephant. :) Kelly
Thanks for the room tour. My boys had bunk beds when they were young. It was the only way to make room for play. My favorite picture is the one of all the tops. I wanted to pick one up and give it a spin.
My son just walked by as I was viewing this post and said ... "Na-ice room!"
I think he nailed it. Fantastic job!
I love it. Love the bright colors.
Question on the bunkbeds: my husband says Ikea beds use their own funky mattress size, not standard US sizes, which would mean buying Ikea sheets and mattresses too. I'd rather ask you about it than lumber through the Ikea website. We need to get Ben into a big bed soon, and we're thinking about bunks.
