Yes, I desperately need to mop floors, vacuum, and cook meals to freeze but such tasks are requiring a three-day pep talk to motivate myself. I wonder, when will I get another burst of nesting energy?

This morning we had beautiful, peaceful snow showers. Because this is the deep south and snow of any sort is a marvel I tried to capture it with the camera through the bedroom window. It was a lot prettier in person.

An afternoon cup of tea with a dose of solitude was a nice pick-me-up today... that and a ginger lemon creme cookie. Yum. Such niceties help carry me through the school carpool line, the flurry of after school snacks, play, and homework, then dinner.
Yesterday I started placing tiny socks, nightgowns, and sleepers in the baby's chest of drawers. What delight! As I worked my mind started racing, "Oh yeah, we're going to need diapers and wipes... Where are the receiving blankets... Don't forget about baby wash for bathtime... And hooded towels... Do we even own a bottle {no} or pacifier {no}... Baby Sister needs a hat."
Why didn't I think about these things before now? Clearly it's been a while since we've had an infant in the house. I seem to have forgotten about all the little necessities {like Tylenol drops} that we'll want to have on hand... so I started a list. But I'm still feeling kind of spacey about it all. What would you put on your list?

Have you gotten a sling yet? I now consider that a necessity for an infant.
Our bouncy seat was my number one must have when Ian was born. It was a nice safe place for him when I needed both hands.
Okay, this may seem small and silly, but I LOVE this handy product. A colorful dispenser for little plastic bags (for dirty diapers while out and about). I've found them at Target.

Hmmmm, it's been a long time, but I still remember my #1 need in those early months...sleep. Better rest and relax all you can now.
Don't worry about dirty floors, the nesting will come. And if (by some crazy, very unlikely chance) it doesn't, you'll have such a cute little girl that you won't even notice anything else ;)
Someone who will understand instructions, so they can go out and buy what you need when you realise you need it. xo
I'll second a sling, church family can be lovely, but I remember how overtired my first baby got being passed from one person to another, and I was left with a very cranky baby that night...people don't expect a hold when bub is in a carrier. ;)
Burp cloths - have you personalized-embroidered some for baby girl? (Now my favorite baby gift for friends thanks to you!) Diaper rash ointment...hmmm (racking my brain cuz my due date is June - we have 2 boys, this will be our first girl!!!)
Oh how fun! Baby swing comes to my mind and a little bath tub that lays in the kitchen sink.
Frozen meals put up in the freezer...yes, a must!
And hide away a few new DVD's for the brothers. :)
A girly diaper bag!
I think you're doing GREAT with your list and your lazing around. You need to keep your strength up! I consider times of pregnancy and new babies sort of like crisis mode - get done what you can, don't feel guilty, and recruit help.
My favorite part of getting ready for the baby was washing and putting away the little clothes! And bows :) My girl has so many hair things they fill up a drawer and I love them - I do not stint on little girl hair things. She wants me to cut her hair right now, but I can't bear the thought of no summertime ponytails!
I must agree with the sling. I got a Hotsling for my second and I LOVE IT and he still brings it to me to carry him in sometimes (it goes up to 36 pounds). It's so small that I could wad it in the diaper bag and have another carrying and soothing option.
I also really like something to swaddle a newborn - mine slept better when swaddled. A blanket works, but a swaddler wrap is easier at 3am :)
Aquaphor---does wonders to prevent and treat diaper rash--and it works for chapped lips too {mama!}
These blankets are wonderful.

But...they have a target line that is much cheaper!

A little something for you wouldn't hurt either! :) Like some nice smelling body wash--suave makes several---and they are cheap!! but...are so nice on those days you need a little pick me up!
I wish I could come over and mop for ya...it's so hard towards the end! Breastpads...just don't forget breastpads!
extra bassinet and crib sheets for quick-change 2:30 a.m. messes, unless you co-sleep of course.
God has you resting right now : ) Try not to let your mind spin out of control.
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
One thing that I couldn't live without with all of my kids was a swing. My baby was just 8 months old when we moved cross-country, and she slept in her swing for the first month we were in the new house. It was a life-saver.
And I completely agree that bows are a MUST for baby girl. I also had two boys before my daughter came so I know all about the frillies. Check out Etsy for some great bows. And here's a completely shameless plug for my own Etsy shop: www.JensCraftCorner.etsy.com Lots of bows and headbands there, as well as stuff for the big brothers.
Love reading your blog.
I'd say don't worry too much about the list. If you can dress her and feed her and change her and bathe her and put her to sleep somewhere, then she's covered for the first few months.
Christian...I did the exact SAME thing! The week before LIttle Bit was due, I was like, oh yeah, I should buy diapers. Oh, baby wash, yep, that would be good to have, too. Wipes? Yes, those too. It's like you totally space out. :) I'm sure you'll think of everything, and if you forget something, i have a feeling you'll have lots of eager friends who would be happy to help you out! :) Oh - a nursing cover was QUITE handy with two curious siblings. Blessings to you and sweet baby girl!
That blue phone is so happy to look at. I loved reading the "three-day pep talk" phrase because I can very much relate to that right now! The afternoon cup of tea and cookie and solitude sound delightful. I find that I am craving some solitude these days. Tomorrow I will get a nice dose with the way a school schedule rearranged is working out. How exciting to be putting things in drawers! Still waiting patiently for drawers but I share in your excitement vicariously! bows! and a hat! so sweet. hmmm . . . what to add to the list . . . a good book for reading while nursing? Just a thought. Kelly
