On Friday Big Brother went home from school with a friend to play. Little Brother, who lives for when his sidekick gets home, was a little lost. After his nap he asked me if we could bake Christmas cookies to which I replied, "Good idea!"
We opted for snickerdoodles because they're not too Christmasy. Together, just the two of us, we enjoyed a deliciously sweet afternoon baking cookies to last us through the weekend.
And, today it was Little Brother who enjoyed playing with a friend.

"Last you through the weekend"...I hope that you are still blogging in 10 years when the brothers are teens. At first reading this I thought, "what, cookies that last the weekend?" and then I remembered those days in my own life when a batch of cookies lasted a week.
Not now though, fresh baking, including cookies, nearly everyday for growing teen boys. This along with actually needing Costco sized packages of meat and potatoes and no leftovers, except for me having a leftover thought of "what happened to my little boys?"
It's so sweet to see little boys baking! Ben and I were just discussing what we would do were we to ever have a boy... our home can seem very "girl-centered" with two little girls. What a relief that boys can bake too!
You are such a sweet mom. I love your little every day stories.
fun times in your new kitchen!! yea!!! Kelly
Part of the sweetness might be in realizing that there's such a short time left for these mother/son moments alone.
Baby #3 brought so much life to our family, but he also made me treasure the one-on-one times even more.
Oh, I am so inspired. The next time a sweet one asks me to do something with them, I want my response to be: "Good idea."
You made me smile. (And wish for a nibble of snickerdoodle.)
Fun, fun...especially meaningful with baby's birth looming - a little extra us-time, just you and the current baby of the house...
Love Tukes' thinking look.
Agree with Merlin about the teen boy appetites! I pack (minimum) two 8" meat subs for school every day, two fruits, chips or nuts, yogurt or soup, AND a goodie and he STILL comes home hungry. This from a beanpole guy. It's sweet in its' own way : )

Super sweet picture. I bet he loved cooking with you.
You are a great mom to respond "good idea." And I do love baking cookies for my kids ("for," not usually "with"). And yum - snickerdoodles!
