Sprinkled

Come peak into the nursery for a minute... I want to show you the beautiful wall hanging that the professor designed and made for Baby Sister's room. I love it. I really love it!
The inspiration for the overall look of the room, as well as for the wall panel, came directly from the colorful Cathedral Window quilt that his grandmother made for us shortly after we married.

Using four sheets of thin birch plywood, happy colors from the quilt, and the large CNC wood router at work, the professor repeated the quilt's pattern using layers of wood. To add interest he reversed the color scheme leaving the diamonds neutral while adding color to the petals {the negative space}.
The result is a simple, mod'ishly feminine panel that happily fills a large, empty wall and complements the quilt beautifully. I love how the once neutral room is now pleasantly sprinkled with color... kind of reminds me of a cupcake!

Wow! That is absolutely gorgeous - a true work of art. Oh how I want one for my family room.
Seriously ... amazing!
It's beautiful - and such a clever idea!
I'm not surprised that you love it, because it is beautiful. It added the same harmony of color to the walls that the quilt adds to the bed.
Baby girl will treasure that piece all of her life, not only for it's beauty, but because of all the love that her daddy poured into it.
OH my goodness. This is one of my favorite things ever. Do you think you might ought to submit it to Apartment Therapy or something? So fantastic. I love the reversed scheme!
"Do not covet, do not covet, do not covet"
This I began saying the minute I logged onto your blog and saw "it".....I saw and I felt longing and I heard the words in my head "I want that!" Immediately I started chanting "do not covet"
Hopeless...I want that, I want it, I want it!
What a beautiful keepsake for your daughter.
Forgive me, but, I WANT it, now I shall return to the other tape that must play "I will not covet, I won't, I will not covet"
Beautiful. Blessed daughter.
Stunning!! Such crisp, fluid lines and dazzling colors. And the way it complements the quilt ... what an utter treasure.
Val -- Hand pieced! Amazing, isn't it?!
The professor is quite a carpenter! I love it, too...it's amazing and an instant family heirloom.
Ack!!! It's so gorgeous! I already flip over that heirloom quilt, and now. . . . the wall hanging is just so perfect. I adore the tongue-in-cheek switch of colors, the colors themselves, and the utter simplicity of the circles overlapping.
Seriously, I pulled my husband over here to look. I think this is a brilliant way to fill up a wall without competing with the rest of the room.
I just really really really love that quilt and that wall hanging together!
Saw your room over at Ohdeedoh, what an awesome idea. Your husband is so talented and you both are creative to combine the look using the DIY artwork and quilt. We are expecting our 3rd child in Sept. and will be using the nursery / guestroom setup similar to yours. Just wondering what you do with an infant when you have a guest over? We are just thinking of setting up a pack and play in our bedroom and having the baby sleep there so I don't have to bother the guests (usually mom or mil), when the baby wakes and needs to nurse. But I am curious how other people do it. Thanks for your ideas.
Christa
that is one impressive piece!
very unique work of art!!
Would you ever consider making more of these and selling them? It is absoluately stunning!
Molly -- We're toying with the idea, although it would be a time consuming endeavor.
Christa -- Thanks for stopping by and thank you for the compliments! We are thrilled with how nicely the panel turned out.
Congratulations to you on the upcoming arrival of baby #3!
Our nursery doubles as a guest room so when we have overnight company baby sleeps in our room in the pack 'n play. None of us sleep as well but it works.
Your husband did a very careful, perfectionistic job on this thing! Very impressive.
Oh Christian! That is WONDERFUL! SO AMAZING! WOW! It's gorgeous. You are a blessed woman. And your husband and his grandmother are both incredibly talented. I am so happy for you.
I would purchase one in a heartbeat!! Absolutely gorgeous.
