Today I visited second grade armed with delicious bits of tissue paper, Modge Podge, and plain, gray plastic ball ornaments. {Why plastic? Second graders are delightful, energetic, and exuberant about Christmas; I didn't dare send them home with breakable ornaments in their backpacks.}

We talked about using colors, patterns, and textures in art while adding them to our ornaments. We decoupaged to our hearts content... about as long as our 30-minute attention spans would allow.

I'm a fourth grade teacher, and I love this idea! How long did it take them to dry?
yes, we went Christmas caroling with church tonight!
The ornament is a great idea. I haven't yet used Modge podge but I want to - care to give some hints?
For the non-crafters, who are now wanting to be crafty for Christmas because of this delightful project, will you please post the
2nd grade instructions which will be the level I need to actually be successful. Thanks.
That looks like so much fun! And look how beautiful they turned out!
Okay everyone, craft directions forthcoming... in the next day or so. It's very easy, very fun. The project was a hit with the kids and the teachers.
Shannon -- The Modge Podge takes about an hour to dry. Today the kids finished around 1:30 and when they dismissed at 2:45 they all took home dry ornaments.
I love this idea! And how fun for the kids! I used to LOVE craft projects ar school. :)
And yes please; I hope you'll be posting the directions too. I'd love to try this project.
Very cute. I have some Modge Podge and some ornaments that I'll have to pull out. We had to break out some decorations today too.
Well done! They are beautiful. I bet the kids were so thrilled ... and the teacher, as well!
how cool to have the Professor's wife teaching about color and pattern! Even big "kids" would love this craft.
Thanks for sharing,

My mother teaches 2nd grade (one and 1/2 years until retirement!), and on her behalf ... God bless you for providing and supervising this fun event! After decades of teaching, new ideas are difficult to unearth, not to mention the time & energy required to execute them. =)
I love that you went to second grade! This looks like such a fun project and plastic is a definite must! :)
The bottom shot is lovely too. I am hoping to begin decking the halls a bit around here. Kelly
Oh I love this! Homemade Christmases are the best.
So cute! I totally want to make these with my boys now!
