Precious Gifts

If you stopped by my house around four o'clock on a weekday afternoon this would be a likely scene... Big Brother completing homework {or wrestling with homework}, Little Brother engaged in a messy project {most likely Play-Doh or paint}, and Sister carefully monitoring all activities from under the table {before commencing with her daily practice of emptying the art cabinet and eating crayons}.
These are the ordinary moments for which I give thanks.
362. Sunny bedrooms.
363. Reading aloud to Big Brother's class.
364. A night off from packing lunches.
365. The house full of sunlight on a cool Saturday morning.
366. Baby hands clapping.
367. Happy sounds drifting through open windows... birdsong, children playing, lawn mower engine.
368. Date night.
369. Chic black velvet pants {found on sale!} to wear for date night.
370. Little boy handwriting.
371. All five of us spending an afternoon at the gardens.
372. Baby looking like a spring flower in her smocked dress.
373. Boys in white button down shirts.
374. An aced science test.
375. A runny nose.
376. Forsythia in bloom.
377. Drip, drip, drip.
Ten thousand thousand precious gifts my daily thanks employ;Nor is the least a cheerful heart that tastes those gifts with joy.Through all eternity to Thee, a joyful song I'll raise; For O, eternity's too short to utter all Thy praise.from "When All Thy Mercies, O My God"by Joseph Addison, 1712

I love those words by Addison! They're set to a beautiful tune in our hymnal. . .
I admire you for the paint and play-doh. I usually veto that mess!
#373: Nothing more classic and classy than that!!
Mmmm ... crayons. Why do kids find crayons so yummy? I remember smelling them and wanting to take a big bite, but being too fastidious about my crayola collection to give in to the temptation. haha
What a beautiful gratitude list and the hymn is beautiful too. I need to remember that..."For O, eternity's too short to utter all Thy praise."So hard to imagine what God has in store for us! And I like the comment you left on my blog...it's all about perspective...your "Hot" is probably worse that our "cold"...but it sounds good now! (-:
