Smitten Lately {A Post for Catching Up}

Since the professor's return, I've been trying to catch up on life and rest. Flying solo while he was away left me feeling as jet-lagged as our weary traveler. The children and I were in survival mode for 3.5 weeks; it feels good to be rediscovering life as normal once again.

A few days ago I realized that I never showed you the backsplash that the professor installed behind the vanities in both bathrooms using miniature subway tile. The tiles mimic the backsplash in the kitchen, except they're smaller. I am smitten with white subway tile... and the professor, too.

"Mommy, they bloomed!" I am smitten with boys who are smitten with bugs, and butterfly fun.

Lately, I've been smitten with the daily play of sunlight in the hall.

Smitten with my dapper, young gents taking inventory of their Easter egg loot. Smitten with thoughtful friends who delight them every year with a rockin' Easter egg hunt.

Smitten with my Easter flower.

Grandaddy, Gracie and Sister smitten with each other. Well, Gracie isn't smitten with Sister... the Strawberry Girl tends to chase and pull ears. I think Gracie is very relieved when Sister is behind glass!

Smitten with the way she crosses her ankles... smitten with her juicy thighs... smitten with her little pink tongue... yep, I'm smitten with 17 pounds and 13 ounces of healthy baby. The pediatrician tells me that she has a 50th percentile head on a 5th percentile body... apparently, these days, Miss Peanut has more brains than brawn!

And that, my friends, is just a glimpse of life lately. What has left you smitten lately?

I too am smitten with crossed ankles! Isn't it just adorable how they do that? I love that she is playing with your lens cap. And I love that sweet little bow in her hair and her delicious Easter dress!

I too have a delightful sense about subway tile. I hope that some can perhaps figure into a bathroom remodel if/when we undertake it.

I am smitten with little tongues sticking out, new friends who welcome you, Nanas who change diapers and love. Kelly

I am smitten with my own baby boy who is exactly 367 days younger than baby sister! I'm enjoying watching her grow and seeing where we'll be in one year. That subway tile is pretty smit-worthy, too! Three cheers for the professor and his return!

Smitten with my teenagers who are in-demand farm hands, coming home with dirty jeans, paychecks and praise for jobs done well.

Smitten with the God who makes heart-dreams reality, and perfect timing when the time is right.

Farmgirl -- Your baby came!!!! Congratulations! Just the other day I was wondering if your expected little one had made an appearance yet. I am so happy for you! Drink in these baby days, every single one of them is special!

Deb -- Yes, perfectly timed heart-dreams made real according to the timing, love, and mercy of the Father.

Kelly -- Smile... Nana's who change diapers. Aren't you so happy to be nearby... especially now?!

I'm smitten that you survived 3.5 weeks as a single parent. I went 8 days once as my longest stint. I know it wasn't easy, but you did it!

Hope you are no where near those tornados rolling through your state tonight! Sent up a prayer for you!

I'm smitten with those crossed ankles as well!!! That is precious!

Did the Professor manage to take pictures in Dublin?

all those lovely photos - your little dolly girl in her sweet dress.

it occurred to me: how do you lug your camera around to capture all those things away from home? I consider my camera fragile and bulky, so I don't usually take it places (unlike my little digital point and shoot that I used to carry everywhere). I thought of that because it never occurred to me to take my camera to the doctor's office, much less use B&W. it's so effectively charming!

Always an Adventure -- Yes, the professor managed to capture some very nice photos in Dublin, as well as in the surrounding areas and in Italy. Perhaps I'll have him share some of them.

Margo -- I really don't lug my camera around that often because... a) I'm lugging a baby, b) it is fragile, c) it is bulky. When I do take it out and about I carry it in my (large) purse, or I stow it in the bottom of the stroller. I so understand the popularity of iphone photography because it's just SO easy... much easier than a DSLR, that is for sure!

The only reason I took the camera to the doctor's office was because I was envisioning a particular shot -- baby on the scale -- but I didn't end up capturing it. Oh well. Baby on the table is cute too.
