Stories

I love the story dimension of photographs. With the press of the shutter a story is caught; when others look at the picture new stories are created. For me, the stories and emotions that are captured and created in a picture are what make a photo truly compelling.

A single book, forgotten and left on the table, is the story of a school boy eager to play outside on a golden, September afternoon. It's the story of school days and boyhood and a mother happily watching her boy run. But, those aren't the only stories... the rest are up to you.

3:20 p.m.

Doughnuts before dinner? What can I say... Some neighborhood kids were selling them as part of a school fundraiser. Nevermind that I'm the mother, it's their fault. I ate one too.

The Lord, My Strength

Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless.
What he trusts in is fragile; what he relies on is a spider’s web.
He leans on his web, but it gives way; he clings to it, but it does not hold.
...
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Job 8:13-15 and Psalm 18:1-2

Oh, The Things She Will Learn

While sitting at the dinner table our Strawberry Girl produced some unladylike sounds after being struck with a brief and mild episode of baby flatulence. She giggled. When the moment passed {pun intended} she, very purposefully, nestled her sweet, pink lips in the crook of her arm and reproduced the unladylike sounds. After which, she grinned at her brothers and giggled again.

Clearly she has two pre-adolescent brothers who are teaching her many things. Undoubtedly, she adores them. You know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; but, for heaven's sake, she's only seventeen months old... and such shenanigans at the dinner table?! Oh dear.

Favorite Things

Beloved books and an {old} camera on a shelf in the office.
These are a few of my favorite things.

Savior

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7

Together

Little Brother and I have fallen into a new routine. After kindergarten, after lunch, and after baby is napping, it's he and me... together. We read, or play games, or chat, or watch Curious George {with yellow shoes and green lizards}. It's fun.

Afternoon Happenings

The young modernists seized a broken Eames chair from the professor's workshop to use for lawn lounging. {Gasp} You mean you haven't seen the latest rage in outdoor seating?!

Oh, how I jest.

The water baby found drip drops and got into wet mischief. Of course.

Love and Faithfulness Today

His love this morning... Quiet, still moments before daylight. A quick, thoughtful email from a friend. Digging deep into the Word. The prayers of family and friends. Peace, despite uncertainty.

His faithfulness this night... Encouragement in what has been difficult. Insightful conversations. A beautiful, pleasant afternoon. All five of us around the table. An evening walk, with laughter.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
To declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night...
Psalm 92:1-2

And there was evening and there was morning... a new day.

Ampersand

Years ago, I gave a brass desk clock to the professor. He still has the timepiece... & the box.

Afternoon Things

I laid down {in the bed} for a cat nap this afternoon. I never do that. Bliss on a cloudy, fall'ish day. When I roused myself all I could think about were muffins. And tea. So, Little Brother and I got busy in the kitchen. I think we should fill more afternoons with restful moments and warm, sweet things.

Old + New

Vintage dress {mine, once upon a time} + New leggings {thanks, Bunny} = One happy outfit.

The boys have informed me that, "Sister is dressed funny," and that, "She is wearing a clown suit," but I think she looks like a cute, little doll.

The Living Stone

As you come to Him, the living stone — rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him — you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5

September

Sweet September is here. She took her time coming. The light is changing; the days are getting shorter. My heart feels glad... and awake. September is happy, like a pretty apron hanging on a hook. Hello cool mornings, open windows, and golden afternoons. I've missed you.
