Grace When Dreams Fade

Last week we watched part of a dream slip away.
And while it was just an earthly dream, losing it was a keen disappointment.
Sometimes God's goodness stings.

In the fading of something that we held dear, hope was born...

Because God's sovereignty is far greater and more loving than we can imagine.
Because He knows our dearest dreams, and if they should be fulfilled.
Because His plans are bigger and better than our biggest dreams.
Because we have a chance to see God work in mightier ways when our own dreams die.
Because His glory and our sanctification are what is most important.
Because He loves us too much to give us what isn't His very best.

To find comfort and rest in these truths... this is grace.

I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment. I've thought about our earthly plans more in the past 5 years than ever before...it has caused me to seek God more intensely, to cling to His promises, to put my faith in action...where the rubber meets the road. You will be in my prayers...your writing inspires...

Oh, Christian. I am so sorry to hear of this for you. It can be so, so hard to hold our dreams with open hands.

Disappointment is hard. But knowing He is masterfully in control is truly reassuring.

Hugs to you.

I need to print these words out and put them on my mirror. To stay steadfast in the Lord during all our days is such a blessed reminder of HIS steadfast love and grace toward us. Thank you! I will pray that the Lord would continue to bless you with His truths.

"Because sometimes God's goodness stings."

Your post brought tears, because I think we can all relate to letting go of dreams. But there was such profound truth here... I really want God more than I want my dreams, or even my security. He is my happily ever after... and sometimes, in order to teach me that, His goodness must sting.

Sweet friend...how I do know the sting and pain of such passings and you speak truth and you are right. Praying for Him to lift your head, to set your eyes on Jesus, and to assure your heart with His peace that He is sovereign and He is good...even when the bread He gives feels hard...like a stone. Oh it hurts. And still, He is good. I am praying for you and hurting with you...from a distance. Love you!

Dear Christian,

I am revisiting this post today as part of an earthly dream slipped away. Thank you for giving words to my "keen disappointment." It helps.
